Remembering David Larabell

David Larabell, the next to the last member of the Joseph R. Smith Post, Grand Army of the Republic, died in 1934.

He would have been 96 years old if he would have lived 10 more days, according to an article published on July 9, 1934.

A military funeral took place for the Civil War veteran who was buried at St. Joseph cemetery.

A farmer, Mr. Larabell lived in Monroe and served with the Company H, 11th Regiment, Michigan Infantry.

He was born on Mortar Creek Rd. and attended Monroe schools. When he returned from the war, he married Fannie Crria and then Susan Cooley after his first wife died.

Mr. Larabell then lived in South Rockwood, serving as a Berlin Township commissioner.
